Combining Turbine Outputs? [RE-wrenches]

Hang on a minute folks, this is standard "windfarm" stuff you are talking
about here. The turbines can all be connected direct to a single three-phase
cable, daisy-chained in at their incoming breakers. You don't have to worry
about wild a.c. or anything that applies to small battery charging machines;
with induction generators the turbines' output frequencies are fixed by the
grid, not by the turbines. Each turbine operates independently of the others
as a grid connected generator and there should be no control system issues
with running multiple turbines.

If appropriate (it is often done), the grid can be connected at higher
voltage to a transformer near the first turbine, and then the windfarm
distribution may be done at 480V. The issues of selection and protection of
cables,
switchgear etc should be handled by a HV distribution/protection specialist,
and the utility should be involved at an early stage.

Often the turbine manufacturers (if still in business) will be able to
advise on suitable
arrangements. If you are considering buying used Windmatics, first go
outside on a windy day and get someone to throw buckets of oily water at you
while stamping on your hands with greasy boots. Then post me your wallet and
enjoy your last free weekend. If I can help at all at this distance please
get in touch!

Cheers
Charlie
