Camera [RE-wrenches]

Techies,
What really eats camera batteries is those digital displays on the
back of the camera. Buy a camera that gives you feedback without turning
on the display, and your batteries will last many times longer. The
catalog biz has me shooting a lot of digital pictures. I usually just
fire off a whole bunch from different angles, with and without
fill-flash, and then sort them out on the computer big screen. (Get
yourself a couple 64 MB or larger memory cards too. The 8 or 16 MB cards
that come with most cameras are too small to be useful.)
Rechargeable lithium-ion is the best battery (but $$!!) for digital
cameras, followed by NiMH. Grocery store alkalines are a poor choice.
You'll only get about half the capacity before the dropping voltage
causes the camera to reject them. NiMH cells will go to about 90% DOD
before they start to drop voltage.
If you ever want to publish your photos or use them for brochures or
literature, get yourself at *least* a 3 megapixel camera. You can always
set the quality lower for everyday stuff, but you can't set it higher
with a cheap camera.

Jay,

I second Jeff's vote, but I have the Fine-Pix 2600 which is OK if you're

looking for a 2 MPixel, less expensive camera. They're running about
$175 now from local retailers. One thing that stands out is great
battery life. It even comes with a couple of NiMH AA cells and charger.
Also the software was very easy to use.
