We've faced the same decision a number of times:  to weld or not to weld.
The question is:  Are you willing to accept the very expensive liability if
the weld fails?

PS:  Our answer:  Not if there is any way in hell to avoid that!  Pipe is
cheap, compared to lawsuits.
