Anybody ever try those PV direct swamp coolers?

I have one in our offgrid home. The biggest unit, 24V, with bells and
whistles: rheostat, thermostat, cleanout pump with timer, etc. I have used
it for one cooling season so far. Mixed review.
Pros:
*It works quite well. Effective cooling in our dry climate.
*It is very electrically efficient. One amp @ 24V DC on lowest speed. I
could run it even slower.
*Not unattractive, for a big metal box. All stainless steel enclosure. Basic
assembly is adequate for the job.
Cons:
*Labor-intensive installation, and not for the typical homeowner. The
accessory kit comes unwired, and the instructions were amateur.
*Quality control on mine wasn't very good. The exterior grille comes loose
because the screws aren't well located or installed. One DC power wire was
shorted to the case at initial startup. One j-box cover screw aligned with
air, not metal. All things I can live with, but it's not for everybody.
I have another identical unit that I ordered for a regular customer, along
with ours. After installing mine, I suggested to him that he wasn't up to
the task of installing it himself, and his preferred installation would have
required the services of a carpenter, sheet metal shop, plumber, and us for
wiring; outside of his budget. So I have one still in the box; contact me
offline if interested.
