Hi Ray,

Of course a gas fired AC unit is a totally different creature than a gas
furnace.

Check out that link I attached to my original message.  There some gas
furnaces that use less than 200 kWh's a year (season?).  Others with
similiar BTU and AFUE ratings using over 800 kWh's.  I'd like for some
others to check that link out and tell me what they think that means.  I
don't know if includes the phantom load but would guess it doesn't.  It
makes no mention of how many hours per day nor days per heating season
either.  All of the those items would be critical things to know.  Making
some real general assumptions of an well inusated house and a 4 month
heating season (120 days) that could mean aprox 1.5 kWh's day.  Using at
least 20 kWh battery bank one could get buy with very little gen run time.

Yes, I do totally agree that it's still a bad load.  I have never had to run
one in an off grid application but do have plenty of grid tied homes with
gas furnaces that are backed up by an SW or two.
