Any of y'all who work in Oregon on RE systems and do not have a
Oregon Signing Supervisor's license will need to get the new RET
license.
Anyone wishing to be grandfathered for the RET license created by
Senate Bill 932 should have 40 hours of approved electrical specialty
code training by DECEMBER 31, 2001. Contact Margie Butler @ 503
373-1238 for class materials.

At least three of the five eight-hour courses can be completed by
correspondence. The remaining 16 hours will have to be classes, such
as Trace Engineering's inverter class, Solar Energy International
classes, and others within the past 3-4 years that Chief Electrical
Inspector John Powell approves. John can be reached at 503
373-1353. He will need a certificate or other proof. Those who
attended the solar training course in Ashland, for instance will
receive 8 hours credit for that.

The 40 hours of classes is just one of three major requirements. The
other 2 are:

-4,000 hours of on the job training as verified by OSEIA
-Passing an exam which will be given in late December (date and place
to follow).

THOSE NOT COMPLETING ALL THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LICENSE THIS YEAR
MAY HAVE A TOUGHER TIME LATER. After December 31, 2001, all seeking
the RET license will be under the jurisdiction of an apprenticeship
board. Whereas some class hours and on the job training MAY be
accepted by the board after December 31, 2001, it is not assured.

Any technician who has installed 20 or more PV, wind, and/or hydro
systems, is wise to try to qualify before December 31, 2001.

Best,Bob-O
