Fw: New Topic MPPT and wind power [RE-wrenches]

All this talk about MPPT for wind machines makes me want to express 
the value of simplicity and elegance of inherently matched design. I 
believe that good engineering can (and does?) achieve a reasonable 
match from airfoil to generator to battery/load without the need for 
power electronics. I'd rather depend on a simple system that is 
likely to survive decades of use.

I use the Solar Boost 50 on my home PV system and I have measured the 
gain and reported it with enthusiasm, but I know that if it fails, I 
can still hook the array right to the battery and get power.

It's OK to augment a system with electronic matching, but I would 
rather not have a wind system that is absolutely dependent on it by 
design, especially in a lightning-prone area.
