Yes, we've successfully installed both the TM500 and 2020 over distances
of 500-600 ft.

For the Trace, we cut the supplied cable at a junction box with a small
terminal strip (similar to what you find on the AC end of a SW, but with
smaller screws), available at Radio Shack) in the power room, using
perhaps 10-15 ft. of the yellow cable. At the term strip, we go to #12
stranded for the long haul to the house, where we install a similar
j-box/term strip to connect the other end of the yellow cable to the
display. Since the yellow wires are so small, we strip them long enough
to fold the bare wire back on itself, doubling the thickness.

For the Tri-Metric 2020, we do the same routine without the j-boxes,
using #12 stranded wire. Don't connect _solid_ wire that large to the
2020 - you run the risk of ripping the term connector off the circuit
board when you push the wires back in the box.

We always include at least one spare pair (and often also include telco
quad wire) in the same long conduit - just in case. We use Christy boxes
every 200 ft. and waterproof splices at 400 ft. feeding from 500 ft.
reels, since the 2500 ft. reels are too big for our wire carrier.

Chuck Heath ...and Welcome, Pagen!
