Battery DeSulfators [RE-wrenches]

Since I am new to group I hope this question has not been
addressed a hundred times already!
Several years ago we were approached by a manufacturer to install
one of their "new" desulfators which we declined after careful
research. Our concern was that almost all of our installations
have batteries in the 2000 AH @ 24 or 48 volt size range and we
felt a single "black box" the size of two packs of cigarettes
could not possibly do anything for batteries this large. I am
now seeing more talk and products, but am still concerned by the
one size fits all design for very large battery banks.
Question - I understand that some testing indicates these small
units may be able help recover or extend life of several almost
dead golf cart batteries, but do they really add anything on both
new and very large banks?
Question 2 - If they really can help, what's the deal on sizing.
I have not found any S-M-L-XL sized units. My common sense tells
me if they can help, you would need a much larger device for a 3
ton battery bank than two L-16's!
Question 3 - If this electronic "pulsing" technology really helps
prolong battery life, it appears to me it would be very very easy
to add this feature into any standard solar charge controller at
minimum added cost. I do not see any solar charge controller
manufacturer embracing this concept.
Question 4 - Any really independent testing data out there?
Everything I can find is from manufacturers on only their
products.
Thanks for any advise and sorry if this has already been
addressed.
