Lightning damage from LIGHT flash on PV [RE-wrenches]

Windy,
Not to be a doubter, but I believe it is much more likely that the voltage
surge is due to the induced current from the lightning strike (very common).
A lightning flash is not substantially brighter than the sun (never measured
it--but my guess is that the light is actually substantially less). Sorry
for the doubt, but I just can't see it (pardon the pun).
Bill.

Subject: Lightning damage from LIGHT flash on PV [RE-wrenches]
Another wrench with 20 years experience was just visiting. He says
that he sees damage come power surge from the PV array generated by
the bright flash of LIGHT from nearby lightning. The batteries can't
soak up the spike fast enough to clamp the voltage. Grounding doesn't
help. + to - voltage clamping is what helps.
I never thought of lightning being brighter than sunlight. Any comments?
Windy
