Larry's right, it isn't fair, but not for the reasons that Larry says. While it's true that the SF 19 is half fridge and half freezer, Larry's product is also significantly less than 19 cf of interior space. We publish the actual interior dimensions of all the Sun Frost's in the Sourcebook. He's got 8.1 cf fridge, plus
8.1 cf freezer, which is significantly short of 19 cf total. Nobody's totally honest about interior space, but most come closer than SF. Larry's published power useage is with the freezer at 15 degrees F, while the EnergyGuide labels that all major manufacturer's have to post on their units are run with the freezer at
zero. Larry's a small manufacturer, doesn't have to put an EnergyGuide tag on his units, and I believe, takes advantage of that by comparing apples to oranges.
I still think the SF is a great product if you're running it on an off-the-grid DC power system, but if you're running on AC? Too expensive, too clunky, and too little power advantage over the best mass-produced units.
Larry's gona skin me for this, but I probably send 10 people shopping to their friendly local appliance store for a mass-produced fridge wearing an EnergyGuide tag for under $47/yr, for every person that I sell a SF to.
