The PV1 models (non-battery SW units) have been out of production for at
least a couple months now. Trace quit offering 'em when the ST series became
available.

That helps, so does turning the absorption volts way down, the float volts
down, adjusting the float time to minimum, etc., etc. There's lots of
tinkering you can do to minimize charging wattage, but it's always there to
some extent at night, and it's a whole lot more button pushing than you can
expect the average homeowner to handle if the unit ever gets powered down
and loses the memory.
