<x-flowed>Yo Jay,
I see your problem, but it seems like a lot of expense to go to in
wire and trenching for such a small return. Also, I make it a 10.6V
or 8.8% wire drop with 5 amps @ 120vac and #4 CU wire. Not good.
If you must do this, run 240vac over from the grid and step on it at
the inverter with a transformer. That way you could get 10A @ 120vac
into the inverter at a little under 5% loss. High, but acceptable.
Consider using 4/0,4/0,2/0 AL URD. You'll probably find it to be not
much more money than three runs of #4 CU USE. Even closer if you're
thinking #4 THHN and PVC conduit. Jeeez, the 1000' of trench is
probably the most expense anyway. With the URD, you could get about
12A at 240vac over there and feel pretty OK about the voltage drop. Mo
betta. In ANY case, I'd fuse or CB the run at the grid connection, of
course, and consider a small value fuse at the inverter input to
limit the current to an acceptable voltage drop level. Better to blow
a fuse than feed thru way low voltage, no?
Good Luck, Bob-O
