4024 quirks [RE-wrenches]

Just had a strange happening with my own 4024.  I know the On/Off menu
button is designed to take you back to the on/off menu from anywhere but
just today I happened to hit the button while actually *in* the on/off menu
and lo and behold it caused the setting on the menu to change.  i.e. it went
from ON to CHG.

The manual says nothing about this rather confusing little feature and I've
never noticed it happening before.  Anyone know if that is what it is
supposed to do or should I start to worry that something else might be wrong
as well?
