Rick:
We’ve dealt with the no-slab problem by setting some steel traffic plates.
To move these plates use the same heavy lifting equipment you will already
have on site (crane truck, forklift, backhoe, rollers and/or pallet jack).
WE buy a lot of generators and our generator dealer has a crane truck that
he helps us with. I gotta say though, if you have a battery room, you are
going to moving batteries in and out periodically, so it’s smart to just
pour a slab with an apron and get it over with.
We’ve rented a small telehandler
<https://www.genielift.com/en/material-handling-products/telehandlers>.
This will get your steel plates to or in the door and get the battery trays
off the trailer and onto the pallet jack. If you don’t want to keep the
plates, they can be rented, likely from the same yard that you get the lift
from.
Attached is a better photo of the pallet jack with the shoe we fabricated.
The shoe attaches with 4 3/8X16 flat head screws. Spin them out when you
are done and you have a spare pallet jack. The photo shows us removing
some Hawkers. We are lifting the nose of the tray just a bit to get the
near horizontal block out. There is another block at the back of the tray
and one length-wise under the middle. Once the first block is out the tray
sits firmly on the other two blocks and allows the pallet jack to slide
in. The concept is a bit abstract but simple in operation.
We developed a technique with the pallet jack and a pipe roller to get the
pallet jack over a concrete lip. It’s hard to explain but it involves
jacking up the pallet jack, placing a roller underneath and then retracting
first the front and then the back wheels. It’s a very smooth operation
once you get the concept.
Good luck.
William
