My guess is that DC is bonded at the negative shunt as is normal with
many DC load centers, and that the dryer is a big enough load that pulls
enough DC amps, so that some of DC negative is flowing back through the
ground. Probably doesn't trip normally, because at lower loads, less than
an amp is flowing on the ground.
