But if you are net metering, doesn’t your utility have to replace the kWh meter anyway?

Here and in NY, it is common practice for an installer to pull a meter where a supply side connection is to be made.

Per my Master AC electrician, you do not have to arrange for a meter pull with the utility. That to me is one less piece of brain damage to deal with.

I have not checked out the cost of a back fed breaker VS this item.

How is this different/better/less expensive than just doing a supply side tap using insulated connectors (NSI's)?

At SPI this year I spoke with one of their reps briefly and they indicated that after many years of trying to get the product ready it was finally going to be in production.  I have researched it no further than that however.
