Sw workaround [RE-wrenches]

I am mostly a lurker on this list (I'm not really a Wrench). But I watch with interest and an experienced layperson's knowledge of wrenching. There are more messages coming by related specifically to Trace's funkiness than any other subject, and I feel this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Has anyone had the chance to install any of the new Vanner inverters in an intertie/battery situation? How are they working?

What about some of the European, Japanese, and Australian inverters? Surely some of those companies are looking at modifying output voltages for the U.S. market.

I would dearly love to see a HP Things that Work! article on an inverter that works well. We need to start pushing something besides Trace, but we have to have one that we are sure will work.

Somebody will eat Trace's lunch if they don't come up to snuff.

Hmmm, thinking on my feet here. What if the Wrenches started an active campaign to get new inverters into this market?

It was the Wrenches (thanks to Richard, Bob-O, and Don mostly, as I recall) that got Trace off their butts to build the SW series in the first place. I remember that second SEER fair where wrenches were sitting around with the Trace guys (maybe Clyde, Sam, & Bob?) and then there was a panel discussion that made it clear to them that we demanded a good sine wave inverter. They came through, mostly.

I put forward that it is time to start pressuring other companies. Personally, I think Xantrex is hoping to squeeze out every buck that they can out of the status quo as long as they are top dog, and won't do a damn thing until competition forces them to.
