E-meters [RE-wrenches]

	Responding to Todd's post about the 'pulses' affecting E-meters;

	Once a year. my system is hauled out into the woods to act as a
generator-based, stand-alone system used to power the offices, kitchen and
communications system of the Oregon Country Fair. The E-meter is invaluable
in keeping tabs of the system, and is easy enough to read that
non-techincal personnel can make basic entries into the operating log and
know when to start the generator.
	A recurring problem has been that one of the office yurts that I supply DC
power to likes to run an RV-style florescent light over a table. Somehow
this light generated enough electrical hash into the wiring to make the
E-meter think that there is a 60-70 amp load operating on the batteries,
and it merrily counts the Ah down, giving a grievously false reading. I've
had to pull the fuses on the E-meter more than once to reset the meter to
0.00, the try to play catch-up to figure out exactly how many *real* Ah I
need to replace by running the 30Kw generator.
	Last year, I convinced the manager of that yurt to actually *throw out*
his noisy florescent light. Hopefully, no more totally false readings.
	The moral: watch out for noise on the line, it can be a killer.
