There are many good shortwave radios out there. Bob-O has the correct 
info. Also look at the Sangean models. They work well and are 
inexpensive.

The most important thing with any radio is the antenna. If you are 
into shortwave and/or AM, then consider the longest, highest wire you 
can put up. I use electric fence wire for receivers, it works well 
and is super cheap. Keep the antenna and the radio as far as possible 
from all noise makers--charge controls, inverters, and sadly 
instrumentation using microprocessors.
