Sunfrost noise [RE-wrenches]

Hi Donna,

I purchased a Sunfrost RF-12 for my personal home about 5 years ago and is was
horrible! After running for about 5 minutes it would make a very annoying
"dripping water" sound, evidently coming from dripping liquid refrigerant in
the copper tubing. I called Sunfrost and after *much* haranguing, I got them to
agree to repair the unit. After all one of the selling points is that it is
supposed to be quiet! I found it frustrating to have to so strongly demand this
problem be rectified, but eventually I prevailed.

If I recall, they paid for the shipping. I lived out of an ice chest for a few
weeks, got a new unit back and everything has been fine since then except for
the 3 door clasp failures. I understand this is a common problem. I have been
quite happy with the performance and quietness of the unit, especially when
compared with traditional self defrosting ones.

BTW, I defrost once a year... takes about 3 minutes. I use a wooden scraper and
the slight buildup of frost simply pops off the slick plastic interior surface.
After a year I have about 1/2" of frost/ice on parts of the freezer top only. I
am not sure why people balk so on manually defrosting freezers, especially
considering the wasteful energy requirements.

The only alternative is a propane unit and they also produce sounds when
operating... the flame's jet is audible and burning propane can also create
indoor air pollution.
