<x-flowed>William,
You may well be the exception that makes the rule. Still, I believe
you are missing both the point and the boat by not designing the
system and selling the gear. Nearly every tradesman, electricians,
plumbers, Etal, sells both the little parts and the major components.
It's the only way you can afford to stand behind the job during the
warranty period. If something fails the way you do it, do you charge
the customer for the service call and the fix? What if they say they
feel it was your fault? Who needs that?
When you say "I'd suggest instead presenting a list of dealers and/or
installers and let the consumer decide after contacting "listees"
whether they'd prefer one stop shopping or picking the best from
both trades.", you utterly miss the point. This is a Wrenches list.
Damn me if we should be listing folks who just vend. I guess I know
one or two vendors whose design skills could be considered a "trade"
as you suggest, but they are rare-very rare. On the other hand, there
is a pestfesterous HOST of piss poor, hot damn, I just made 5%,
vendors. These, in my opinion, are what are keeping RE back from the
mainstream every bit as much as the utilities.
I respect your opinion and your C-10. I hold one as well. But I don't
think we should include or modify the Wrench list to include vendors.
Not a bit.
