DC answering machine [RE-wrenches]

Looking forward to seeing Sharkey's schematic.  I've tried to use one of
the (previously mentioned) Phone Switches that are designed to turn on a
fax or other device when the phone rings. Problem I had with it is that
it becomes a phantom load on the inverter.  I rigged up a radio shack
phone/flasher (a device that flashes a lamp when the phone rings and is
not a P-load) and a couple relays to "wake-up" the circuitry on the fax
switch, but then was still stuck with the fact that most answering
machines, even though they may be twelve volt on the wall transformer
input, do not work battery direct, do to the previously mentioned
grounding incompatability (cordless phones seem to work better for some
reason).  The DC/DC isolating power supply from the old AEE folks
dropped the voltage amd provides isolated 9 volt current to 9 volt
machines, but mine didn't work well and caused problems with
radio/television reception.  I highly recommend voice mail provided by
the phone company.  My telephone company did not have the service
available when I inquired but said it may become available at a later
date.  I spoke with a higher-up (at CTC) and explanined that many of my
clients would sign up for such a service if available and they brought
it on-line shortly thereafter.  Four bucks a month and I get my messages
even when I'm on the phone/computer. -- Kurt Nelson
