DC answering machine [RE-wrenches]

	Hi Steve;

	Yes, it's particularly important to pick an answering machine that can
keep track of where it is in the incoming messages while powered down. I've
been using my widget on two models of Panasonic Easa-Phone devices, an
ancient KX-T1515, and a slightly less venerable KX-T1624. I don't know how
these machines know how many messages are waiting, but I have found them to
be reliable. They don't contain any backup power source either.
	Obviously, if shopping for a new machine, the purchase should be
contingent on the unit being able to keep up between power down cycles.
	Mass manufacturing is an amazing thing! It would be hard to present a UL
approvable timer box for cheap, in spite of the fact that mine uses only a
555 timer, a couple of inexpensive relays, and an aluminum project case. If
there was consumer demand, they could probably be produced by the train car
load for next to nothing.
	I dug out my schematics and will redraw something to post for the home
brewers on the list soon.
