Kurt,
   I agree with you that we have to be careful about setting up an 
unreasonable old boys network roadblock.  I have been trying  to get started 
on an electricians license for years and get stonewalled every time.  The 
classic response I get from Master electricians is that I probably won't live 
long enough to get the license.  There is no provision for life experience.  
If I'm wrong on that, someone please let me know.  I have hundreds of hours 
of experience wiring working with licensed electricians houses but not in a 
formal program.  I see the work of many electricians when interfacing my 
systems with their handiwork and quite frankly there is a lot of shoddy 
workmanship around.  It doesn't make sense that you can get a pilots license 
in 3 months and risk other peoples lives with your skills but can't get 
trained in a reasonable length of time to do wiring.  Not sour grapes, just 
making a point.
So far I see very little problem with wrenches competing with each other so 
the more good wrenches out there the better.  I am optimistic that things are 
going to start moving a lot faster in the near future.
