Wes,
We steer people towards the new generation of Energy Star Appliances.  At
our grid connected house we have a Amana 20.5 cu. ft with bottom freezer
that uses around 1.2 - 1.5 kWh per day depending on the season. This is an
average using a Brand Power meter hooked up for weeks at time. This fridge
is really big and any local appliance repair guy can work on it.  I'd hate
to take a DC Sunfrost to someone around here for repair.  Its yellow energy
sticker rates it at 576 kWh per year (576/365=1.58 kWh per day).  I don't
know how this compares to the SunFrost but I have heard that the Vestfrost
uses more than it is rated at.  Does anyone else have some numbers on them? 
The propane models that I have dealt with are very small.

On a business note we prefer not to sell our customers appliances.  We look
at our job as either replacing or supplementing the utility.  We make lots
of recommendations regarding appliances and we do carry quite a few styles
of compact fluorescent lamps.  Most of our customers understand that and
when the budget is willing they like the idea if having standard "Sears"
appliances in their houses.  This wasn't possible even a few years ago but
standard appliances have made some real progress lately.
