Sw workaround [RE-wrenches]

Wrenches,
    Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm happy to be told so by others whose
experience I respect.  We have never sold a SW2512, so we can't miss it
much.  To me, there are only three or four reasons to use 12 volts:
1. RVs (which we generally avoid, leaving this market to RV specialists);
2. Tiny cabin systems with little expectation of expanding;
3. Folks on tiny budgets, as there's more used 12V stuff available, as it's
an obsolete standard;
4. Folks with old (10+ years) systems, who by now have 12V pumps, a 12V
SunFrost, etc., and are pretty much locked in to staying 12V.
    It seems to me that 12V was the original standard because in the old
days reliable inverters hadn't come along, DC was the only option, and 12V
and RV stuff was all that was available.  Nowadays inverters are reliable,
systems are generally larger, and DC-DC converters efficiently handle the
small stuff.  I'm missing why anyone would build a new system around less
than 24V.  The need to occasionally run DC power moderate distances (such as
for water pumping, which we do a lot of) cries out for higher voltage/lower
current voltages.
    What are some examples of installations where building a 12V power
system is the *best* choice?
