Logic would be to put the two shunts in parallel, not series. 
However, I think it will not be accurate. Slight difference between 
two shunts will cause unequal current distribution, and the meter 
will read the higher of the two ... I think!

The best way is to put a resistance in series with the meter. If the 
resistance is equal to that of the meter, the meter will read 1/2. 
Use a multi-turn trimpot to fine-tune the resistance precisely.

The shunt will be fine as long as it doesn't carry 1000 amps long 
enough to get hot.

Write a big " Multiply X 2 " on the meter.
