Islanding [RE-wrenches]

Drake,
   The only way that a trace inverter could keep a localized grid alive would 
be if there were very large motors on the localized circuit that would 
continue spinning and provide a feedback frequency and voltage reference to 
the inverter.  However, as soon as the grid goes down,  the Trace inverter 
would not be able to keep the motor running at full speed and therefore the 
60 cycle reference would degrade and then the trace would shut down.  In 
reality a lot of factors would shut down the trace.  Grid voltage drop, and 
anti islanding circuitry in the inverter.  It would probably take a lot of 
sharp engineers (or mayby Mr Sharkey) and a lot of tweaking, adding 
capacitors, and all kinds of other stuff to keep it running for even a few 
moments.  Kind of like the likelyhood of a fusion reactor working in our 
basement this week.
