John, I have also used the Square D air conditioning disconnect and in my
case the 60 amp version.  It is small and cheap ($30US?).  It looks like it
contains a 60 amp 2 pole breaker, but is only a switch, and is lockable.  I
have also had good luck discussing options and alternatives with the
utility.  Alliant power even waved the disconnect in two systems I did when
I sent them the info on the SW Trace -- Kurt
