Thanks for the response. Traced it back two steps to 302.6 which brings  you to 302.5. So yes, required by code.

2024 added the section you referred to for utility spaces within dwelling units and it borrowed door language from previous garage openings section 302.5

It is 2024 IRC R330.4(4) Locations but I believe it is not written to apply to the garage door, just utility closet, basement, storage space within the dwelling unit. The attached garage requirement (2) sends you to R302.6 which is drywall requirements, not to the door reqs in R302.5.1. So that is a bit confusing, maybe it is locally amended language.

Items 2-4 were no issues (smoke alarm, parking protection, above 18")

I've installed ESS in my town before and the only issue we went back and forth on was the parking bollard / vehicle protection aspect. But this entry door requirement is not something I had seen before.

Anybody know where I might find this requirement?
