[RE-wrenches] Wind machines

I installed a Superwind 1000 at a mountaintop transmitter site on a 35’
tilt up tower to supplement 4000 watts of solar. That ridge has been
tested for a wind farm and the wind speed was wind farm quality. I have
data on that site on OpticsRE using a shunt with FlexnetDC. The
transmitters site has a continuous 300 watt load and the single wind
turbine has produced significant power at night and in stormy weather. The
hourly averages for output have been as high as 800 watts and often will
carry the 300 watt load for several hours at night. The amount of propane
used for the backup generator was significantly reduced, justifying the
expense of the Superwind and installation. Figured into the cost savings
was the cost of hauling 100 Lb propane cylinders up the mountain on ATV’s
and snowmobiles. Had only one down time in 3 years when I’ve storm
temporarily froze the blade hub to the nacelle.
