You might try a capacitor for an old AC pump but I do not ever suggest making it variable speed as AC pumps have a locked rotor amps start that is sometimes much greater than the LRA listed especially as they get older and AC pumps normally will not start without full power AND ONLY AFTER THEY ARE STARTED CAN THE SPEED BE VARIABLE AS THEY VARY DOWN IN VOLTAGE BUT THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA . TRUE NEW MODERN AC VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS CHANGE AC TO DC POWER AND THEN VARY THE SPEED UP AND DOWN .  THE SOLAR WOLF
