[RE-wrenches] clear sealant recommendations

James:

Thanks for getting back to me. I think the Navy did a study on the longevity of zip ties. I will look for it and share it.

4-5 or 8 years is beyond most installation warranty periods, so we contractors are not liable. Good news!

4-5 or 8 years is far short, however, of any module warranty period. This leaves the awkward question: What does one do with a perfectly good PV array with the wiring falling down? And another question: Do unsecured high voltage PV leads pose a danger?

These are rhetorical questions. Please don't feel they require an answer.

Aloha.

William

Sometimes we want a good quality clear sealant to put around conduit fittings, where our conduit enters buildings, etc. We used Geocell 2300 in the past and I don’t have anything bad to say to it but our current supplier doesn’t carry Geocell products. More recently we’ve tried Chemlink Clear sealant but I’ve already seen signs that it doesn’t hold up well in the elements – it seems to peel off the surface it was installed on and turn brown relatively fast.
