[RE-wrenches] Solar cooker plans request

I recall seeing simple cardboard box models being demonstrated by NMSEA
at Solar Fest. They would get to about 275 F, while their huge trailer
mounted mirror device got to about 325F, as I recall. The main flaw in
all solar cookers is no backup source of heat, so that if it gets
cloudy, etc. the temp could drop and allow stuff to possibly spoil. I
always wanted to come up with a design that used propane if the temp
couldn't be maintained with solar. I think we would see much wider
adoption of the technology. Adding thermal mass would help too. I
think that is one advantage of the traditional Orno adobe ovens: they
conserve wood, and heat very evenly.
Solar cooking won't replace a skillet, but it lends itself to crockpot
type simmering; if the sun is shinning....
