Hi wrenches,
I think I have the perfect application for a high voltage controller
with transfer switch. My customer currently has a VFX3524 with 8 L16s
strictly as a backup to his critical loads panel
with the grid as the AC input. It is not a grid tie version as he wanted
to be able to use a small generator Honda 2000 to recharge in a long
outage. When we installed this in 2006, I suggested he add a few PV panels
to make it SOLAR so he could take the tax credit on the whole thing. The
tax credit paid for the panels plus more. Now 9 years later and very happy
with his 220 watt system, we are adding 6840 watts of PV on 3 top of pole
racks 200 feet from his house. This direct grid tie system with a Fronius
6k inverter will take care of his electric bill but will not help in an
outage. The Morningstar 600 v controller with transfer switch would give
him the whole new array for backup. The specs say the controller limits the
incoming current so there seems to be no problem with the large array
size. Have any of you used this controller in this application? I want to
make sure this will work before I talk him into spending another $1700 plus
installation costs.
