Wrenches,

Has anyone seen a good procedure or "best practice" for locating a series arc-fault (or any arc-fault)?

If a solar PV installation truly has an arcing circuit that has been detected and interrupted, are there good methods for locating the fault other than visual inspection and hoping to see some evidence of the fault (e.g., wires pinched in conduit, carbon deposits, module damage)? It seems possible that the arc-fault will be interrupted quickly enough to prevent the development of obvious visual clues.

Of course, you could always disable the AFCI device and reproduce the event but I won't make that recommendation.

Thank you,
