[RE-wrenches] Trojan L-16s

I have had several bad Trojan cells starting in 2009 and 2010 date of manufacture, all in different banks, one cascaded to wiping out the bank while the owner was gone for 4 months.

It was just toast when he returned. In my own bank I have had 2 bad cells in a bank installed in 2010. There are a couple others in the process of dying as we speak.

When I have asked the response was no increase in failures noticed. These are in the L-16G models.

I have had horrible luck with Interstate, us battery and Deka.

When banks go 10+ years with Trojans and then in the same location go 3 years with another brand, it probably ain’t the care and treatment.

I do know that a few years ago someone else started making the L-16’s for interstate. Might it have been an improvement?

Just my .02 worth,

Bob Ellison

Drake,

I used to sell Trojans and had good results in the old days. For the last 8 years I have been using Interstate L-16's and I think with better results at a lower cost. Since my oldest install of the interstates is only about 8 years old, time will tell about longevity. I have had Many service calls with premature bad cells in Trojans, especially the high performance models.

Hello Wrenches,

A 1 1/2 year old bank of Trojan L-16s had a battery with a dead cell. I have heard that there have been some complaints about the L-16s lately. Has anyone had experiences with Trojan L-16s (or the RE series), good or bad? Are they still a good choice to use in off grid systems?

Thanks,

Drake
