[RE-wrenches] off grid PV connected to generator

Just to give a manufacturers stance on this topic:

We at SMA will never tell an Installer/Customer/Home owner that this is recommended. It is always recommended that a Sunny Boy be placed supply side when a genny is installed.

As stated before, when loads are at a minimum, the Sunny Boy knows nothing but to push current into the A/C system. It is not aware of how much load is needed, and has no way of controlling output (without the Sunny Island).
When this happens, the current will back feed into the Genny, causing damage to the AVR and other critical control parts.

In your case Chris, having a small PV system and a large genny, you may never encounter this, but it is still a risk that we do not recommend.
There is no risk of hurting the Inverter, it is well protected from A/C side issues.

Best of all is they work together happily. My Kohler 12RES and my SMA SB3000 seem to work together perfectly, without any issues.
