[RE-wrenches] Salt & Aluminum vs Galvy

Hi Jeff,
   There is no doubt that aluminum will stand the test of time better in a
marine environment than galvanized steel. The galv. will show rust in
an amazingly short time. We have had DP&W marine grade aluminum mounts
within 50 feet of the water in the Bahamas installed now for more than
ten years and still have good ground and attachment. I have to say, I'm
hoping I never have to remove the ss hardware. I suspect I'll have to
break the bolts to get them off. None of the aluminum mounts we've used
have been painted. I believe it is all anodized. Steel pipe will rust
very fast there. Use as much ss/concrete/marine grade aluminum and as
little steel, even galvanized, as possible, none if possible. I haven't
seen even one panel frame or rack turn black. They do get dull, but
definitely retain there aluminum look.
