Eric,
Locate a reputable roofer experienced with the roof type you are dealing with and sub them to install stand-offs for you, once you determine the array layout. This will save you alot of time and grief, and you will know that the job was done right. Unless you really want to learn the finer points of penetrating and waterproofing a flat tar and gravel roof ....not for me.
or...Do you have the option of using a ballasted array. Of course, have the design OK'd (stamped?) by an engineer. There's lots of wind loading with a tilt up array on a flat roof.

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Tar and Gravel Roof Moint

Anyone have experience mounting a tilt up array over a tar and gravel roof? Weatherproofing, best practices for finding rafters, type of standoffs etc. The residential roof in question has over 3" of tar (!) so im thinking 6" stanchion to tilt legs. Any ideas or lessons learned would be helpful.

Thanks,
Eric Thomas
