[RE-wrenches] Electro-calc calculator

Larry,

I use an Electro-Calc Pro wire calculator.

It has the current NEC code built in, an upgradeable chip
for the next current code , so no need to replace the
calculator when code changes.

You can affect : %VD, Wire size, Length, amps, volts,
raceway mode, Temp, power factor, Phase, ground, conduit
size, watt, O-load, HP motor size, on and on.

I have used this for 10+ years [ I am guessing] and it
allows you to instantly look at so many options in just a
few key strokes. Esp. great when trying to straighten out
someone else's mess and show a client on the spot where the
errors are and how wonderful, & knowledgeable you are and
that they need you. This is one tool that I consider to be
indispensable. There is one in my truck bag & one on the
desk.

There are a lot of handy tools in my bag but this is right
there with a great set of screw drivers, line-mans pliers,
wire cutter/trimmers, etc.

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Parallel wire runs to increase size

Wrenches,

Some of our business involves repairing poor PV solar
installations on recreational vehicles. So often we wind up
installing a roof junction box and running a second PV to
controller wire and then replacing the controller to battery
wire size. For instance, we may find a 10 gauge wire run to
the controller. We then add #8, #6, #4 or even 2 gauge and
parallel to the #10 depending on power and distance of the
run. My question: Is there a calculator or chart that will
tell me what the combination of any two wire sizes equate
to? example: #10 + #4 = X

Thanks.
