[RE-wrenches] roof noise after solar install.

Darryl,

The problem can also be caused by uneven heating of the roof. I lived in an off-grid house for eight years. It too suffered creaks and groans such as you describe, but mostly on warm, sunny days. Noise wasn't a problem during the winter or in cloudy weather. The issue was resolved when the PV were moved off the roof and put on pole-mounts (for reasons other than the noise issue.) We know it was roof temperature and not the racking because on close scrutiny over many weeks, we found the noise originated in areas of the roof exposed to the sun, away from the PV. Loosening the PV clamps and letting the PV free-float on the racking had no effect on the noise. Shading the exposed areas of the roof with large flats of cardboard and all was quiet again.

Just one more data point. Hope this helps...

Dan

This was built at one time, but on Tuesday I am going to the site,
and I will look very carefully at the structure.
