I also understand from conversation with SMA that the Sunny Island can
automatically modulate the power coming from Sunnyboys to match the loads.
I understand that this is done by playing with the AC frequency and is
limited to some extent in it's ability to handle all ranges of load
mis-match. Not sure exactly how the Island handles extremely low loads
during time of high avialable power.

HI darryl,
You can also use a relay to turn off the pv, on the AC side if you don't
want to use a diversion load.
