Big Offgrid System Request for Guidance [RE-wrenches]

HI Allen
First I assume you mean 300 kW peak load, not 300
kWh/day, 300 kWh/day could be handled by a 50 kW
inverter system. BTW Outback can go bigger than 39kW
( know of at least one) I have not used a SMA island
system.

You are definitely getting good advice here. Let me
just add a little. Definitely conserve, Definitely
solar thermal. Definitely due a load analysis.

For some guidance and basic sizing I like RETScreen
easy to use, and with a few work arounds, fast and
comprehensive. Also Use Homer from NREL, I compared
predicted results and real real results found good
agreement.

When doing electrical sizing use NEC Chapter 2
Definitely use 2 gen-sets as they will require down
time for repair/maintenance.

System type, I would say definitely 3 phase. As a
rule, when the 5% volt drop makes the wire size larger
than ampacity go to a higher voltage. This criteria
lets 480 3 phase up to about 1000 to 1500 feet.
480/277 and 120/208 are very handy for building
wiring. There are some DGI inverters that go to 277.

I have some ideas on battery technology, I will get
back to you on that.
Good luck.
Darryl
