    Approximately 50% of our installations are battery based, some grid
tied, others off grid entirely. These two types of systems require not
just knowledge of the system components with all their different
parameters but also a serious understanding of battery physiology.
Much of what I have learned has been over the last twenty years of
experience working on various systems, calls to Surrette and others,
and even my fellow installers.
    The majority of service calls we are now on involve systems installed
by others, self proclaimed experts who have not put in the time, money
and installation experience, as well as industry training, to learn
what they should.
    The gold rush mentality Jeff is referring to is real and undoubtably
will blacken our industries eye to some degree. It certainly hurt the
solar DHW industry in the 70's and it seemed like it took that
industry 20 years to rebound. I can only say that, having put in my
years in the school of hard knocks, I am hoping we will see sustained
growth, not mistrust of the general public, as this trend plays
out......
