Apollo T-80 Alert [RE-wrenches]

Hi, Wrenchers~

I reported this morning about the T-80's tendency to not function when 
the solar array is wired in "classic" fashion (series strings with 36 PV 
cells for every 12 volts of battery). 

I also reported that Apollo Solar had not answered my two suggestions: 
(1) This incompatibility factor should be clearly explained in their 
sales materials, and (2) The "minimum input voltage" numbers in their 
installation manual need to be confirmed and possibly revised upward.

This afternoon I got a phone call from service tech Herb Flynn and CEO 
John Pfeifer. I learned today that Apollo is revising the installation 
manual and is also planning to change their sales materials. I thought 
there was a lack of response but perhaps this was just a lack of reply. 
Apollo has no obligation to report to me, of course, but it's nice to 
know that my concerns as an installer have been taken to heart.

My "Voltage Alert" regarding the T-80 still stands: it seems 
incompatible with a "classic" array configuration, and my fellow 
installers should be aware of that. For the many installations where 
higher voltage strings are practical (or even preferred), my "Voltage 
Alert" about the T-80 does not apply.

Since Apollo plans to do a better job of explaining the "incompatible 
with classic" issue, that is a show of good faith which goes far in my 
book. I hope the Wrench List participants will take my "Voltage Alert"  
as a note on how to properly deploy this product and not as a negative 
review of the T-80 or of Apollo Solar.
