Is there a remedy to this poor customer service problem or is this just a condition that resellers
must accept until the supply/demand situation switches in favor of the customer?

Joel,
Yes there is a remedy for us facing these type issues. We band together and form an installers trade association having a very public monthly newsletter making public those modules, manufacturers, or code issues that are un-fair or un-realistic! We base cost on dues and accept no advertising from manufacturers, and there will be no conflict of interest.
