Since this site can be read by non-members, I realize it is not always a good idea to discuss our specific material costs. However, what's going on with battery prices?
Our supplier has increased battery prices to us 3 times since September with another large increase at end of December. They say its due to a world wide shortage of lead. I have seen many articles that say lead-acid batteries are almost 100% recycled and any battery you buy today is actually made with recycled lead, not newly mined lead. The only reason for a shortage must be major increase in demand, but I have not seen an increase so drastic that would explain these increases with promises for more increases to come soon.
What's going on - stock speculation in the lead market?
