Digital utility meters, Bidirectional? [RE-wrenches]

My electronic meter has two registers... one for buy (14) and one for 
sell (24). When I am selling there are 4 LCD dots and an arrow that move 
right to left and when I am buying these move left to right and the 
arrow points the other direction. In addition, I can put a magnet on the 
lower right corner of the meter case to access the aux readout. This 
displays actual kW and the amps being bought or sold, power factor and vars.
